The Worker´s Union (Føroya Arbeiðarafelag) has a collective scheme where the employee is insured from the day they become an active member and pay the fees. The insurance covers:

• Death benefit: DKK 500,000 (01.01.25)
• Benefit in case of serious illness: DKK 125,000 (01.01.25)
• Benefit for serious illness in children: DKK 125,000 (01.01.25)
• Contribution for hearing aids, once per ear, up to DKK 4,000.
• Benefit at 67.5 years of age – only for those who have been in the scheme: DKK 100,000 (01.01.25)

Members who become ill or unemployed can continue their insurance if they personally pay the insurance fee to Føroya Arbeiðarafelag each month, and this must be done within 3 months from the time they are terminated from work. This insurance fee is currently DKK 300 per month.

Please remember that one must start paying immediately, but we have given members a 3-month grace period to get this sorted by paying – but keep in mind that:

• If one starts paying after 2 months have passed, they must pay DKK 600 the first time, followed by DKK 300 per month thereafter.
• If one waits until 3 months have passed, they must pay DKK 900 the first time, followed by DKK 300 per month thereafter.
• If one has not paid the fees for these months before the 3-month deadline, they will no longer be insured.

A person who goes to school or works in another contractual area, such as a craftsman and becomes a member of a craftsmen's association, cannot continue in the scheme of Føroya Arbeiðarafelag.
